How to compress images
- 1Drop your images into the box above, or click Choose images.
- 2Pick a strength. Balanced suits most photos.
- 3Check the savings on each file, then download them one by one or as a ZIP.
How compression works
JPG and WebP throw away detail your eyes are unlikely to notice. The stronger the compression, the more they discard and the smaller the file. At Balanced, most photos lose half or more of their size with no visible change at normal viewing sizes.
The biggest win: resizing
Modern phone photos are often 4,000 pixels or more across, far larger than any screen needs. Turning on Shrink large photos and choosing 1920 pixels is often the single biggest saving, especially for email attachments and web pages.
Compressing PNGs
PNG is lossless, so re-saving a PNG rarely makes it much smaller. If your PNG is a photo, choose WebP or JPG as the output for a far bigger saving. For logos and screenshots, WebP keeps edges sharp while still shrinking the file.
If a file gets bigger
Some images are already well compressed. If compressing would make a file larger, the converter keeps your original instead, so you never end up worse off.
