Why convert GIF to JPG?
GIF is an old format limited to 256 colors, so photos saved as GIF look blotchy and the files are often large. JPG handles millions of colors and makes much smaller photo files. Converting is useful when a site or app won't accept GIFs, or when you need a still image from an animation for a thumbnail, document or print.
Animated GIFs
JPG and PNG can't hold animation, so an animated GIF is saved as its first frame. To keep the animation, keep the GIF, or convert it to a video with a video tool.
JPG or PNG?
For photos and screenshots that happen to be GIFs, choose JPG. For logos, icons and graphics with flat colors or transparency, choose PNG, which keeps edges sharp and backgrounds transparent.
