    What's hidden in your photos

Most phones and cameras store extra information inside every photo, called EXIF metadata. It can include:

    • The exact GPS location where the photo was taken
    • The date and time, down to the second
    • The phone or camera make, model and sometimes serial number
    • Camera settings and editing software

Anyone who gets the original file can read this. A photo taken at home can reveal your address.

    How this tool cleans photos

For JPG and PNG, the metadata sections are cut out of the file and the image data is left untouched, so there's no loss of quality at all. The color profile is kept so colors look the same. The one exception is a JPG that relies on a hidden orientation note to display upright: it's redrawn the right way up and saved at high quality. Other formats, including HEIC, WebP and AVIF, are saved as a fresh copy with no metadata. HEIC photos are saved as JPG.

Don't social networks remove it anyway?

Many large platforms strip location data from public posts, but not all do, and files sent by email, messaging apps set to send originals, cloud links and marketplaces often keep everything. Cleaning photos yourself is the only way to be sure.
