    What is AVIF?

AVIF is a newer image format based on the AV1 video codec. It makes very small files with excellent quality, so more and more websites use it. Support outside the browser is still patchy, though: many photo apps, editors, Office programs and upload forms can't open AVIF files yet.

    Which format should I choose?

    • JPG for photos you want to share, print or upload anywhere.
    • PNG for graphics, or when the AVIF has a transparent background.
    • WebP when the image is going back on a website and you want a small file with wide browser support.

    Browser support

This converter uses your browser's built-in AVIF support, which current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all have. If a file won't open, update your browser and try again.
